DeLand Senior FFA

History

The establishment of Deland Senior FFA was originally charted January 1, 1940. This was when the chapter became an official part of the National FFA Organization, but the Future Farmers of America began at Deland High School in 1935. The original chapter began with approximately 30 members, all males. The original advisor or teacher in charge was A.W. Teeny (1935 Athenian). H.L. Fagan Sr. was also an advisor for 25 years after the charting, also signed the original charter. In the late 40’s and early 50’s the students began to diversify their agricultural interests and opened the program up to horticulture and mechanics.

Leadership

FFA offers many opportunities for premier leadership. Our chapter participates in many state leadership conferences including: Advanced Leadership, Chapter Presidents Conference, and Chapter Officer Leadership conference. We also do leadership activities at meetings and with the federation throughout the year. FFA members also take on leadership roles in their other classes and organizations.
